Markdown converter
Move a document between the two formats you actually paste into.
Model replies arrive as Markdown and land in places that want plain text; documentation lives as Markdown and lands in systems that want HTML. Neither direction needs a build step.
- Two output targets
- Escapes inline HTML
- No build step
Try it now
Choose plain text to strip the syntax, or HTML to get markup you can paste into a CMS. Switch targets and the input is converted again from the original source.
Markdown converter
Convert Markdown into plain text or HTML.
Headings, lists, emphasis, links and code blocks are handled; inline HTML is escaped.
Key Highlights
Markdown to plain text is the harder direction than it looks. A naive implementation leaves the asterisks behind, so `**important**` becomes `**important**` instead of `important`. Link syntax is worse: the URL either disappears or the whole bracket expression survives.
Converting to HTML has the opposite hazard. Passing raw HTML through a Markdown converter is a well-known injection vector, so any inline HTML in the source is escaped here rather than emitted.
Specifications
| Supported syntax | Headings, ordered and unordered lists, emphasis, links, inline code and fenced code blocks |

| HTML mode | Produces sanitised markup with inline HTML escaped |
| Table detection | Separator rows are recognised character by character, so a pipe inside a cell does not break the table |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the HTML output safe to paste into a CMS?
Inline HTML from the source is escaped, so the output contains only the tags the converter generates. Treat it as text input, not as trusted markup.
Why is my table not converting?
Table support depends on a proper separator row directly under the header row. Without it the rows are treated as ordinary text.
Does it round-trip?
No. Plain text output drops syntax on purpose, so converting back is not lossless.
